Best Forum Script?
What are your guys views on the different forum scripts?
I'm guessing Lars here is a sworn vBulletin fan, since this site runs on vBulletin and all.
I personally think that vBulletin is a step above the rest, but Invision Power Board comes in on a close second. I've worked with all of them, and ultimately I think that vBulletin proves to be the best for both Administrators and front-end users. It certainly is simple to use, search engines seem to love it, and it's pretty damn scalable.
Out of the free ones, I'd have to chose phpBB - The new version (3.0 I think?) is looking pretty promising.

I'd go with a VBulletin, if I had the cash to spend on it!
Out of the free ones, I like phpBB for it's huge fanbase, but it doesn't half have a lot of secuirty updates. I've read the FUD is meant to be pretty good as well. I've never had a complaint whilst using it on Starmen.

I have yet to use VB, sadly.
From the stuff I've used, IPB2 is the best. Powerful, and fine controls over just about every aspect of the board.
OpenBB is very easy to skin, but is riddled with bugs. phpBB is decent, but I don't feel like the Admin CP gives me full control over it.

Yes, you were right. My undisputed favourite is vBulletin, but I've never really tried Invision, so I wouldn't know what I'm missing out on there.
phpBB is a great free alternative, but like capn here, I also feel that the Admin CP is a little lacking, and it's also very hard to skin.
I think that Simple Machine Forums (SMF) has potential to maybe take over phpBB's throne as the best of the free ones.

Haha Lars, I read your mind like an open book
I have yet to try SMF, but I think I'm going to give that a go on one of the new sites I have in the works now. If it's easy to skin it'll be good, because I certainly don't like the default skin.

I've never actually installed SMF, but I know forums that use it. It works pretty well, but it's quite different at the same time. I hear that the admin panel is great.

zfgc.com uses SMF and they have used just about every free board by now!

Yeah well I'll admit that I don't have too much experience with SMF - Only briefly had it installed on one of my sites. The admin panel was a little lacking and confusing, compared to the likes of vBulletin - But other than that it looked alright to me.
