Default Best CMS?

Okay, the Best Forum Script thread I started was quite the success, so I figured I'd start one of these as well.

What do you think is the best Content Management System out there, and what things do you value in a CMS?

For me it's not as much the various features of the system as much as the performance. If it sucks performance-wise, you aren't going to find my sites running it.

Personally, I like Wordpress a lot. It's simple to setup, not too hard to skin, and it works very well for small to medium sized sites, even thought it's a blog script more than anything.

Mambo is pretty decent too, but it's just to rought around the edges for my taste. It also uses too much resources and is too slow for me.

I find Wordpress really hard to skin, maybe it's just me :\

I like Mambo, but it is very resource heavy.

Wordpress isn't the easiest to skin, but it's pretty easy to setup, I'll agree with that. Plus the times I've used it, I've just worked from a pre-made skin, and modified it to my liking

I doubt anybody could even recognize the skin I've made it from (such as on the WebDev Blog) without looking into the source.

As for Mambo, yes, waay to resource intensive for my taste. Unfortunately, it's otherwise one of the best alternatives for a large site, such as ZU. I've been seriously considering SubDreamer though, and I might even switch Zelda Universe to that once the final version of 2.0 is out. The out of the box forum integration is a real turn-on, if you ask me.

Frankly, I'm really happy with the old Vortex Portal, probably because it was designed just for gaming sites. I currently use the old version 1 on VGRC. I used version 2 briefly for HaloInformer at one point, but it wasn't as customizable as version 1. My only complaint is the whole project was canned awhile back in favor for some thing called iGaming CMS, which I've yet to try, but heard it works pretty well.

Mambo I started trying out a month ago. It's good, but everything feels WAY to complicated, especially compared to VP2. That and I've yet to figure out the template system.

CuteNews is an awesome "micro CMS." Just create a bunch of different article categories, and it's perfect for small sites, like the E3 project I did, or better yet, Cheapskate Gamers. (Though for some reason, I never got around to launching that)

iGaming CMS is what Zelda Domain use.

I don't like CuteNews, mainly because I'm really bad at using it properly.

I mainly use my own CMS that I've tacked onto vBulletin. It's not the greatest CMS around but it gets the job done.

I'm awaiting Jelsoft's CMS script as well which should hit the forefront of development once vBulletin 3.5.0 is officially released. Though the Jelsoft CMS has been in the works for a long time now.
