php mysql tutorials
I run www.asylumgaming.com, a game review website. I plan on changing my system of content/organization to a mysql database driven site. I know some basic php and I have a basic understand of mysql (such as adjusting table information through phpmyadmin). But my scripting skills are still very basic and I want to learn how to write and edit the mysql database through php scripts. Does anyone know of any good php/mysql tutorial sites that'll help me learn how to interact with mysql through php? Specifically for a gaming site if possible? |

My personal suggestion is to read the devshed.com PHP tutorials, that's how I learned, and I can do just about anything! (of course, I'm lazy as hell, and really prefer to admin servers instead)

Yep i agree those are great good websites to start learning php,you could also find some info here http://www.webdesigns1.com/php/ You could also take a trip down to your local Borders they have some great books. It shouldnt be to difficult for you to build a database driven website if you are already familular with forms and html. |

That does sound very hard actually. I know bits and pieces of php and SQL, I'm in the process of writing my own blogging script as a sideline to my Zelda site. But if I were you I would go for a CMS (Content Management System), I've checked out the Open Source ones and Mambo seems to be the best. I was considering switching to them recently so I have a test one on different area of my sever to familiarise myself with the program.
If you are determined to do it your way, then I would recommend:
http://www.ozzu.com/ -- Forums, they are a great help
http://www.free2code.net/ -- Some articles on PHP/SQL
http://webmonkey.wired.com -- Loads of great article on stuff
http://www.hackthissite.org/ -- Sounds odd I know, but hackthissite.org is a great resource for learning how to protect yourself and they have little tests that will open up your programming knowledge (remember, cracking is nasty, hacking, on this site will teach you how to defend yourself).
