HaloInformer layout
You really need a specific board for people to post their work and get it criticized, suggested on, ect. Oh well, think this goes here.
Anyways, I started last night on the new layout for my Halo site. To say it's all mine would be a lie though, as my partner in crime on the site came up with the original concept (basic header, uncoded) and I get to do all the rest.
Oh, and it doesn't show in the screen, but the links at the top (second row) are rollovers. The background goes from grey to green on mouseover. I learn new bits of CSS all the time.
It's definitely a different style from what I'm used to working on, if anybody here has seen some of my older stuff.
Any sort of suggestions would be helpful at this point.

I think it looks great. It's very professional. Is this going to be a fixed or fluid layout? As with that layout you could probably make it fluid really easily.
I would advice some sort of headers for your links though, just to break up the colours a little.

It looks pretty good in just a screenshots. I feel that I have to navigate through a layout to get the "true" feel of how great it is though - Great work so far though, can't wait to see it live.

Updated the screenshot.
There's still the footer left, and a ton of messing around with the side menus left to do. Frankly, I'm really not happy with the little category headers, so they're really more of placeholders for something better.
It's also going to be using Mambo, which is something else I get to work around. I wanted to continue with Vortex Portal 2, myself, but since the VP project was cut short, and my partner didn't want to code a bunch of modules (and wanted a CMS that would continue to have updates, bug fixes, ect) he suggested Mambo, so I went with that. :P

That looks great, it doesn't look so sparse now.

Well, for those who wanted to see it live:
http://www.haloinformer.com/index.php
Again, not finished, but it was being a bitch to work with without a live site to test it on.
And browse around if you feel like it, but I warn you; it's pretty empty.

It looks great capn'! I'm pretty new in webdev but as a viewers standpoint I think it looks, feels, and runs wonderfully! Congrats and I hope you can get it up soon!

You're doing a good job with it so far. I do think, however, that there's a lot of room for improvement. Seeing you've barely finished this, though, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. Nice work.

Yep, figured I'd just recycle an old topic.
The site is actually nearing completion.
http://www.haloinformer.com/index.php <-- Main page. Using Mambo, with some content now, as well as a comments system and a bunch of other components, modules and mambots I added.
http://www.haloinformer.com/forums/index.php <-- The forums. I started off with the "SubTrail" skin it was using before, and edited it to fit in with the rest of the site.
I plan to get it up and launched this week, if possible. Wish me luck!
