Photoshop 7, CS, CS2 ...why not priced upgrades?
Alright, some people, especially design companies dish out a lot when it comes to upgrading the staff software, and obviously, one copy per machine is a LOT of money considering how expensive the Adobe packages are.
I was just wondering, the upgrades and additions from one photoshop software to the other really are limited. Wouldn't it be more encouraging if Adobe set up priced upgrades that could be bought from the website at a reduced price? At least it would encourage more people to purchase the software anyways.

You have to pay full prices for the upgrades? Ouch... That's gotta hurt for big companies that have to keep an XXX amount of licenses up to date.
And it will for me too, as I'll have to get myself a legal license now that I'm starting up my own company. Ah well, at least it's tax deductable as it's expenses to help gain income.

This is why I've never purchased any version of PhotoShop during all the years I've been using it. I'm just waiting for the "final" version, so that I won't have to worry about paying more for the upgrades

There won't really ever be a "Final" Photoshop an if there is, it will be because photoshop got beat out by another company and Adobe just stopped making it. There going to keep making upgrades to Photoshop til' the end of time... time... ti... t....

I don't think he meant that in a literal way Leminnes.
Anyway, I've heard GIMP is good, I recommend it, but I've never used it, lol.

GIMP isn't as feature rich as Photoshop. Even as a free alternative, it will never achieve great success in the day and age anybody can download anything they want for free, including Photoshop.
Personally, the only program I see comparing to Photoshop was Macromedia Fireworks, but only because it requires less resources and more efficient (for me anyways) when working with text or basic shapes/blending, or if I want to make a quick edit since it starts up faster. I still use it quite frequently, but since nobody makes Fireworks brushes, I use Photoshop for anything that requires actual work.
Anyways, as long as Adobe can make tons of money off it's products, I see no reason for them to make drastic cuts for upgraders. Not as long as they have no real competition, seeing as how they own Macromedia now.

I had the GIMP for a while and still have it. But I could never get the magic wand to work right.
Someone said GIMP is as good as Photoshop 7.0
