Good CMS?
Does anyone know of a good CMS that is free that can be used for reasonably large websites? I know of Mambo, and I've tried them, but I would like to choose out of a selection.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Very large websites would probably have their own custom CMS. I would recommend making your own based on your needs, then you won't have many options bloating your CMS, adding pointless processes to your server.
I don't really like using other CMSs, but I have heard of one called Miraserver that is supposed to be good; however, it's not free. I don't know of any good free content management systems.

I don't have the knowledge to create a secure CMS, I have troubles making a blog script. Which is why I'm looking for a free one.
Mambo is very good, but I'd like to get a wider choice.

It's so painful not to see beginner programmers start projects like that, you could learn so much from it...

If I did start it though, it would probably be so full of security issues that my site would be cracked.
If I were to start it (and I do like the idea of it, I enjoy a challenge) I would need so much assistance it's ridiculous.

What you don't realize that all projects start out like that. Take this message board program, vBulletin, do you think that it started out with all of the features it has now with tight security? No, of course not. In the beginning, your CMS will probably be a basic form for creating new pages and nothing more. As time goes on, you'll add more security and more features as your needs grow. Don't be intimidated, if you do decide to start one and you find that you are having problems, post them here; that's what we're all here for: to help each other learn more about web development. To be honest, I would love to see a well made CMS (I have yet to see one).

You do make a brilliant point there.
I cannot implement a self made CMS on my website, as I need something reliable and stable from the off. However, I've decided to write a blog script, that is all controlled via a mix of admin panels and forum-esque style edit and delete buttons on the main posts.
So far I've got the uploading and viewing content bit sorted, long and short posts, now I'm working on the comments system, and the edit/delete system. I want to add a members bit, so only registered members can post a message. I'm not sure how that will come about though, so I'm researching it.
