New Linking Strategies for SEO
After the most recent update in G..gle which took credits off of numerous links from the same site helping rankings and in some cases wrongfully auto de-ranked them (as some ads are not for ranking, but targeted traffic). We are now looking to create single links form multiple websites as part of the strategy for TalkWebDev.com. It also appears that reciprocal links now have a the same effect as one-ways, although there is no fear of
So in our opinion 1 link on the sites home page has the same value as a link on every page of the site. But internal page link do not generate the same return.
Anyone have any luck with content ads?
Where the Run of Site "Anchor Text" link links to a page on the same site and then there are links to the advertiser on the same page in the form of an article or ad, but only off this one page?
I would expect a site to need several hundred of these for extremely competitive keywords. These tend to cost more than run of sites, and are harder to get unless your bidding at a link auction or brokerage, where the quality of the sites offering the links is mediocre because they are built for the sole purpose of selling a content page link and Adwords.

Wow, I have no idea what your talking about. Either the explanation is too complicated or I'm an idiot, probably the latter.

In all honesty, I only understood about a quarter of that.

hehehe,
In other words Run of Site links (sitewides) lost the value they used to have for ranking websites and now a single link has a similar value to a sitewide.
The content ads appear to be sitewides, but they actually link to a page on the same website rather than linking directly to the third party site.
I'll put up a content on TalkWebDev as an example. You can also read more about content ads (sometimes called Presell Pages).

Well, I didn't get it the first time, as my Google terminology is like my German, about five words. But after a little research I understand now.
Basically, a link that is on all pages of a website basically has the same level of linkage as a link on a single page. Rendering purchasing links on all pages of a high PRing website useless. Unless I'm mistaken...

Not exactly, the level has been downgraded so a home page link may return the same value as a sitewide, but an internal page will not have the same value as the sitewide (if there aren't thousands of pages) or the homepage link.
I am still seeing good PR being passed from sitewides, but in some (not all) cases the rankings have not gotten the full value of a sitewide link from the past G algorithms.
So for the same bang (IMHO) for the buck the home page link should really be all you need. As I still like sitewides for Yahoo and MSN, G has placed less emphasis on them, and in some cases penalized sites for too many links too quickly. Sitewides should be used with caution and the anchor texts should be mixed up as often as possible, or it can can be mixed whenever the page reloads so its never the same on each internal page.
Anyone have code that can mix up the anchor text on page reload for vBulletin or HTML?
